Ambassador Wahidullah Waissi is the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan to Australia. Previously he served as the Director-General for Economic Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan, where he oversaw multilateral development and regional economic cooperation and coordinated regional connectivity projects. Ambassador Waissi has initiated and was chief negotiator for the Chabahar Transit and Transport Corridor Agreement among Afghanistan, Iran and India, as well as for the Lapis Lazuli Transit and Transport Corridor connecting Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey. In the past he also served as a Senior Adviser to the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Finance, and as the Director and Formulation Manager of Afghanistan’s National Development Strategy and Millennium Development Goals. He is also a Co-Founder and Chair of the Green Club. Mr. Waissi holds an MA in Development Economics from Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts (2005).
